Cake. Chocolate.
Confused, he set his coffee cup down in that shaky train table. The world passed by in blurs of green and blue and gray. A seagull flew alongside his window. It moved its wings carefully, like gentle caresses to the wind. The feathers were brilliantly white. The bird took a long look at Eric through the window before heading in a different direction, towards the hill with the large pines. The hill was teeming with dark green trees. However nestled within its nest you could make out little houses. Littered all over. It was a village of elves hiding in the hill.
Eric wondered if Lilly remembers that kiss fondly. It was lightning and thunder. And all in that little break room at the back of the cubicle farm.
“I can’t believe you got that new job so far away, who’s going to distract us now?”
“Yeah right, I’m sure this good bye cake is more like a celebration” he said as he took the last bite of his chocolate cake. It was a big piece but he wanted to be done with it the cake was rich, too rich for his taste. It had about 4 layers of different chocolate textures, sweet as honey and thicker still.
“I wish I could go with you” as she walked, her hips bobbed rhythmically. An enchanted Eric didn’t realize she walked up to him until he could smell Lilly’s rose and lilac shampoo.
“You got a little chocolate on your lip”. Then she put her hand on his shoulder as she got closer to his face. Eric thought she wanted a closer look, afraid she would see some flaw he stood frozen. He felt her hand on his body. He could feel every beautiful finger, he could sense her nails. He imagined what it’s like if they held hands. Too late now. He was moving away. To another city. Far from ever telling her he liked her.
She didn’t stop to look. She kissed him. Her lips landed more a side of his lips. They both had their lips lock into each other. It was playful and cute and it sent an explosion of emotions and nerve activations and thoughts and everything all at once to each other.
“I knew you’d be sweet as chocolate” She said as she pulled away and wiped her lower lip. Her smile was the most beautiful smile he had ever seen. She walked away from the room but turned around right at the door “i wish i could go with you, truly. Good luck”.
By the time Eric could respond he was in the train hours and days away, looking at birds and hills.
